Close to one million people in the U.S. are living with Parkinson’s Disease. At this time, there are not any known cures, but there is a significant amount of scientific studies that are focusing on this area.
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic and progressive disease that affects movement and coordination. One of the many purposes of dopamine that is produced in the brain is to send messages to the part of the brain that controls movement. The Parkinson’s Disease affects the neurons, or nerve cells in the brain called substantia nigra, that produce the dopamine. As the disease progresses, more neurons die off and therefore, difficulty controlling movement increases.
