NEW FINDINGS AND USES
The latest research is proving that umbilical cord blood stem cells can be life-saving for patients with heart failure. According to research that was conducted at the Universidad de los Andes in Chile, umbilical cord stem cell I-V infusions can help to strengthen the heart muscles of patients suffering from heart failure.
Specifically, in a small study of 30 patients (18 to 75 years), half were infused with the umbilical cord stem cells and the other half were given a placebo. In comparison to the placebo-patients, those who received the stem cell infusions showed significant improvement in the heart’s ability to pump blood.
The new study was written by Fernando Figueroa, M.D., a professor of medicine at the Universidad de los Andes in Chile, and it was published in Circulation Research, which is an American Heart Association journal.
